Register for the Boat Tour of the Emerald Bay Asian Clam Project

Please join the Tahoe Fund for a tour of the Emerald Bay Asian Clam Control project on August 13th.  Within Emerald Bay, a small, fast-multiplying invader known as the Asian clam threatens to overwhelm the nearshore ecosystem of this world-famous inlet.  In 2012, a team of scientists and divers covered approximately 5 acres of the lake bottom with black rubber matting to smother the clams by cutting off their oxygen supply. It was the largest Asian clam control project in the Lake’s history and the first time the technique, developed by UC Davis, has ever been tried on this scale. There is still a remaining half acre of population to be treated.  The Tahoe Fund is seeking $30,000 in private donations in 2013 to ensure the project is completed and Asian clams are completely removed from Emerald Bay.

The boat departs from the Tahoe Keys Marina at 9am on Tuesday, August 13th.  The tour lasts approximately 2 hours and will include a close-up tour of the current project as well as near-shore milfoil extraction projects within the Bay.  Space is limited, so please RSVP to Rebecca Lincoln at rlincoln@tahoefund.org to reserve you spot.
